Contact us for more information. "Flowers from the Anvil" is a collection of jewelry and accessories which combine timeless grace with clean, modern aesthetic. Despite her modern aesthetic, Gowan utilizes predominantly techniques and structures dating back over 3000 years to the ancient Etruscans. Gowan strives to promote ethical sourcing -- She goes her utmost to ensure no materials are used which are the product of human suffering, or which pollute the environment in their manufacture. Almost all metals used are recycled. No gemstones are sourced from abusive unethical cartels or conflicted regions. Most gemstones are sourced directly from the cutters, in a manner which assures that the cutters are paid a fair wage. Starting at the age of 13, Gowan studied under a European Goldsmith participating in a traditional apprenticeship, a rare practice in this modern age. Upon the completion of her apprenticeship, she participated in extensive academic coursework on metalworking, at the California College of the Arts and Oregon College of Art and Craft, and was an artist in residence at the Mendocino Art Center. Gowan works predominantly with traditional Etruscan Goldsmithing methods, as well as Traditional Silversmithing and modern blacksmithing and copperworking methods. She works primarily with silver and gold using traditional hand-tools: torches, handsaws, hammers, anvils and files. If there is a mode farthest removed from mass production, it is hers. More of her work can be seen at gowanmetal.com. ![]() ![]() ![]() Please direct any inquiries to david @ vorpalspace.com.
